2.15.12pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 27th Aug 2007

Bradford on Avon Liberal Democrat County Councillor, Malcolm Hewson is demanding figures on the road-use created by recycling centres.

Mr Hewson has written to Wiltshire Environment Director George Batten, following a briefing which shows traffic issues at a Recycling Centre.

Mr Hewson says "For all our futures, we must recycle, but I am concerned that the present collection system increases traffic on our roads and that we are robbing Peter to pay Paul. "As Councillor for Bradford on Avon, a town with a desperate traffic problem, I am particularly concerned about traffic increases, but I am also concerned that Councils may be hitting government targets by create more traffic pollution. We need a whole process look at the effects of different methods of dealing with waste.

Mr Hewson has received backing to ask the County's scrutiny committee to look again at how waste is dealt-with in the County.
