Wiltshire's Lib Dems at Conference2.42.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 24th Sep 2007
More than 25 local people formed the Wiltshire delegation at this week's Lib Dem conference in Brighton. Lead by their Prospective MP for Chippenham, Duncan Hames, they were boosted by a larger Salisbury contingent after their success in this year's local elections. The conference featured debate on Climate Change, Tax and reducing poverty. Duncan Hames delivered a platform speech in tax debate, arguing in favour of the new policy to switch taxes from income tax to green taxes. "Gordon Brown has raised the level of taxation and government spending substantially since the decades of cash-strapped public services under the Tories. We no longer need higher taxes, but we should make them fairer, simpler, and greener." said Duncan Hames.
