Local Flooding brings out Fire Brigade in Holt4.16.00pm GMT Wed 16th Jan 2008
Local residents have been hit hard by the heavy rain in West Wiltshire over the last couple of weeks. Poor drainage has meant that many roads and gardens have been submerged in water. One of the worst hit areas was Leigh Road in Holt, where the Fire Brigade had to be called out to assist desperate home-owners. Leigh Road residents John and Alison said: "We would very much like to praise the Brigade and the engineer not only for their efforts but also their good humour. "These flooding situations that have occurred of late are totally preventable. For years the Highways Dept have failed to maintain the drainage system" Local councillor Trevor Carbin has been in touch with Wiltshire County Council to gain reassurance that the council and their contractors are taking the problem seriously and that the drains will be cleared before the next heavy downfall. Trevor Carbin said "In a time like this it is important that everything possible is done to ensure that the situation is quickly and efficiently resolved. Local residents have been affected, and the necessary people must ensure that the public's needs are being met."
