Swindon Liberal Democrats respond with horror that Parliament is to be suspended for 5 weeks.

Swindon Liberal Democrats respond with horror that Parliament is to be suspended (in all probability against its will) for 5 weeks.

Our country faces an immediate crisis: crashing out of the EU without any deal. This most cavalier and catastrophic of Brexits: putting at risk hundreds of thousands of jobs, public services including our NHS, the integrity of our own Union of Nations, and even national security. Some of the most Brexit supporting MP's have expressed concerns on what a no deal Brexit means for the UK.

So in this moment of national emergency, we are shocked that Boris Johnson together with his hard-line Brexit government, has suspended Parliament in order to prevent Parliament from holding Conservative ministers to account, and prevent no deal Brexit.

Despite saying that No Deal was a million to one chance. It is clearly the destination Boris Johnson has now taken the Country through a most shocking abuse of power. This is something not seen in this country for hundreds of years, indeed it is perhaps the first time since 1629 that Parliament has been suspended against its will, and quite some time since the gap between ending Parliament and a Queens speech was so long at 5 weeks (in 2016 it was just 4 days).

It is wrong, must be challenged and we call upon Swindon MP's to do something about it. It is expected that they fight against the use of dictator style power. One of the key messages of Brexit was restoring sovereignty to our Parliament, yet here we are about to see it suspended (probably against its will).

Its 200 years since the Peterloo Massacre, and 100 years since women received the vote, we have now entered a period in our history where the ruling executive has suspended Parliament in order to force through an ideological no deal Brexit. This is undemocratic, wrong and should be stopped.

Liberal Democrats believe that Britain is better off in the EU. That's why we're fighting to stop Brexit and fighting to preserve our own union of Nations. The Conservatives are making an absolute mess of Brexit something now risking the very fabric of our own union of nations.

The Liberal Democrats want to give the public a final say on Brexit deal, and believe Brexit isn't right for Britain's future. We believe Brexit should be rejected through a public vote and remain in the European Union.
