    The Liberal Democrat group on Wiltshire Council have announced their new shadow Cabinet spokespeople, following their group AGM on Saturday 8thJune 2019.

    The meeting also saw the re-election of Ian Thorn as the leader of the opposition on Wiltshire Council.

    Cllr Thorn commenting on the appointment of the new spokespeople said, "With less than two years to go until the next Wiltshire Council election, it is now very important to challenge the Conservative administration at every opportunity and these appointments will play a crucial part in doing so."

    We waited weeks expecting an appeal to the Secretary of State following the recent decision to "refuse" planning permission for the construction of an Advanced Thermal Treatment Plant by gasification in July.

    Instead, Northacre Renewable Energy, claiming to have learnt lessons, have responded by submitting a strikingly similar plan to their former unsuccessful plan arrogantly telling Wiltshire Council that it has one last chance to get this right or they will appeal, claiming cost.

    For too long Conservative Wiltshire Council has looked the other way, starving our town of services and resources. Other communities have learnt they get more attention when they let councils know what they want and constructively criticise what they do not like, they "demand better".     The promise of the delivery 19 Campuses has been broken. The Conservatives have abandoned those communities like Westbury who had been promised substantial funding to provide them with new and improved leisure and community facilities.

    Councillors heard today at a council meeting in Trowbridge that there is to be yet another reorganisation and shakeup of procurement services at Wiltshire Council. Details of the reorganisation, set to be the seventh in as many years, were scarce with councillors given a report of just one paragraph and a promise that they would hear more in November.
